How we can learn from our mistakes

It takes a special corporate culture to allow us to learn from our mistakes. It is a culture that tolerates risk, and it values the insights learned from failure. If you work in that kind of environment, here are some steps you can take to keep the “lessons learned” fresh:

  • Quickly identify what you learned in a project. Do a review immediately following a project.
  • Identify the good and missteps, and be specific about the things that went wrong.
  • List how you fixed the missteps.
  • Enlist the entire team in the project. Every team member needs to have a voice in the project and the review.
